Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) is involved in many metabolic processes. These include the production of thyroid hormones, the production of energy from food and the protection of nerve cells. It is also colloquially called the growth vitamin. It is also used as a yellow food coloring (E101).
Many alcoholics lack vitamin B2. Symptoms of a deficiency can be
- Skin rash
- Cracked skin (especially on the lips or at the corner of the mouth)
- Hypersensitivity to light
- Growth disorders
- disorders of blood formation
Vitamin B2 cannot be overdosed. It leaves the body again through the kidneys or stool.
