Strachan syndrome is rare. According to current research, it is a deficiency disease, mainly caused by an undersupply of vitamin B1 (thiamine). In addition, essential amino acids and vitamin B12 are also lacking, both of which are also frequently observed in alcoholics – but for the most part this disease only occurs in some areas of Africa and Asia.
In the disease, the optic nerve is destroyed. At the same time, nerve disorders (polyneuropathy), hearing disorders, dizziness and skin symptoms are observed.
