The trace element manganese is a component of many enzymes, e.g. peroxidases, which break down hydrogen peroxide, which is dangerous for the organism and is produced during many processes in the body. You probably know hydrogen peroxide from cleaning around the house or in the workshop – it is not something the body needs, which is why it has a system of enzymes that break down this substance as quickly as possible.
In the body it promotes the utilization of thiamine (vitamin B1) and increases the production of insulin in the pancreas. About 3-4 mg per day should be taken with food.
Manganese plays a central role in building dopamine and serotonin and is therefore very important when quitting alcohol.
The following foods are high in manganese:
Nuts
Whole grain products
Strawberries
Sprouts
Milk
