Amino acids

< 1 min read

Amino acids are the components of life that make up proteins. Amino acids are found in all living organisms.

A distinction is made between essential amino acids, which the body cannot build itself and which must therefore be taken in with food, and non-essential amino acids, which the body can in principle build itself, but which usually require other amino acids.

Essential amino acids are:

Isoleucine
Leucine
Lysine
Methionine
Phenylalanine
Threonine
Tryptophan
Valine
Non-essential amino acids are:

Alanine
Arginine
Aspartic acid
Aspartic
Cysteine
Glutamine
Glutamic acid
Glycine
Histidine
Proline
Serine
Tyrosine (essential for children)
